Kids Nutrition Tips Weight Management ALERT!

Statistics show that nearly one-quarter of Australian teenagers are overweight or at risk of being so. Sensible nutrition and regular exercise can help control weight and reduce the chances of physical and psychological health issues related to being overweight.

Kids Nutrition Tips that really mean a change in lifestyle are far and few between today. My hope is that these following kids nutrition tips and the products we use help to change the focus of your family for the better.

Kids Nutrition Tips:

  • Kids should eat a variety of foods including plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • They need to balance their  food intake with physical activity – set a good example for them by exercising regularly yourself.
  • Kids need to learn to recognise when they are full so they can avoid overeating.
  • Don’t reward kids with sweet treats and salty snacks – use healthy alternatives or better still non-food rewards.
  • Avoid buying kids fast and/or junk foods.
  • Keep easy-to-prepare, healthy foods on hand.
  • Read food labels. There are too many added extras in food products on the market today. It’s time to out play and out smart the food companies. Parents we need to be “food survivors” in the grocery store.
  • Buy and give your kids food in its most natural state. ie. the whole food i.e. and apple, not a muesli bar containing apple… chances are it will only be apple flavoured anyway or only contain 2% apple maximum.
  • Turn off the television and other electronic gadgets during meals. This will help your child focus on eating. Keep in mind that television advertising might also encourage your child to desire sugary foods.
